Hello World!

So this is how you blog…… how exciting! I cherish writing, and I haven’t known how to incorporate it into my career and my everyday life until now. Earlier today, I called my childhood neighbor, who had a blog in the past, for advice on how to start. Incoming is my first blog post: in 5…4…3…2….

I KNOW, YOU SEE! Just kidding, this isn’t about iCarly, though I did grow up with that cast in their era of Disney and Nickelodeon.

A Share-Worthy Self Tape Moment

“If you spend your life avoiding vulnerabulity, you and your work will never truly connect with other people.”

- Austin Kleon, Show Your Work!

Social media has told me this is a year of no “gate-keeping,” which is essentially not sharing valuable information you have learned that could help others. With that, I am starting this blog “thread” (Is that what it’s called….? Regardless, I will learn as I go!) because of a worthwhile book that sparked the idea. It’s called “Show Your Work!” By Austin Kleon, and if you want inspiration, I would definitely recommend it. I cannot remember when or where I bought it, but I just got around to reading it today, and let me tell you, I got through the whole book in one sitting. I’m a big fan of reading, but it has been awhile… the digital world we live in has shortened my attention span.

Getting back on track: this blog does not have an intended audience, and I am told that people with shared interests find you when you share your work.

Speaking of putting your work out there, I have never been one to share much of what I do online. It’s a scary place to me and makes me confront vulnerability like nothing else. Because of this fear, I’ve become what you may call a creative hoarder; I am constantly working on things, but these creative projects & their products build up as scrambled ideas in my many notebooks or throughout my phone’s camera roll. My thoughts are never shared with the public eye. And what’s the point of creating things if no one sees them? A blog is a big start in allowing the world (aka my family, friends, & colleagues) to get to know me.

As the kids say, I musn’t gate-keep my own work or anything that is inspiring me so I shall share it all (and more) here! I am planning to do an Uplifiting Creators Series on this blog too, where I talk about my talented friends and inspirations whose work I admire.

That’s all for now, friends!
